Understanding of the rationale of an artefact

A rationale statement outlines the reasons for an activity or a decision. According to Nikolai (n.d.), many educators use a rationale to explain why a given component of a curriculum was selected. The North-Eastern Illinois University - NEIU (2013) states that the rationale is a justification for using a particular piece of evidence to illustrate achievement of a specific Standard, and NEIU suggests that the rationale should be placed before the pieces of evidence to introduce and justify them. This provides background information and discusses the foreseen benefits and potential challenges of a classroom activity.
